Masman Media was brought in by Griffiss Institute and VICEROY to create a documentary that could communicate the national importance of the program and its role in shaping the future workforce. The audience was not the general public. It was stakeholders, policymakers, and decision-makers who needed to clearly understand the urgency of the mission and the value of the work being done.

 

Through documentary storytelling, national travel, and interviews with students, universities, host sites, and key stakeholders, we created a film designed to do more than explain the work. It was built to strengthen belief in the mission behind it.

THE CHALLENGE

VICEROY needed a documentary that could communicate far more than a program overview.

The goal was to create a film that would help stakeholders and policymakers understand why VICEROY matters on a national level, how it is contributing to workforce development, and why continued support for the initiative is so important. The story needed to connect student experiences, institutional partnerships, host-site engagement, and national priorities in a way that felt clear, credible, and emotionally resonant.

This was not a promotional recap. It was a mission-driven storytelling assignment with a very specific audience and a very high standard.

THE APPROACH

Masman Media approached the project as a mission-first documentary.

Before production began, we focused on understanding the larger purpose behind VICEROY and the exact audience the film needed to reach. Because the target audience included stakeholders and policymakers, the documentary had to strike a careful balance between emotional storytelling and strategic clarity.

It had to feel human, but credible. Inspiring, but grounded. Polished, but purposeful.

Our team built the film around real voices, real experiences, and real-world impact, creating a narrative designed to connect the work happening on the ground to a much larger national need.

What We Captured

To tell the story well, we needed to show its full scope.

Masman Media traveled across the country to capture the voices and experiences that brought the mission to life. Our team conducted interviews with students, university representatives, host sites, Pentagon-connected stakeholders, and other voices closely tied to the initiative and its workforce impact.

These interviews were paired with documentary-style visuals and thoughtful editing designed to show that VICEROY is not simply a program. It is part of a broader effort to build talent, strengthen readiness, and invest in the future.

CREATIVE STRATEGY

The creative strategy behind the film was to make the mission both understandable and felt.

For stakeholders and policymakers, information alone is rarely enough. They also need to understand what is at stake and why the work deserves continued attention and support. We shaped the documentary to connect the dots between education, workforce development, national service, and human impact.

 

By weaving together voices from students, institutions, host sites, and leadership, the documentary presented VICEROY as a program with real momentum, real purpose, and real national significance.

The Outcome

By translating a complex national initiative into a compelling, emotionally grounded story, Masman Media helped Griffiss Institute and VICEROY present the mission in a way that was clear, credible, and persuasive. The film elevated the visibility of the program and reinforced why the work deserves ongoing belief and support.

Recognition

In acknowledgment of the work and the successful completion of the mission, Masman Media was honored with a challenge coin. For our team, that recognition represented more than a successful deliverable.
